Issue 1: Dark Side of Cardio; Unstoppable Fat Loss

Last week I sent out a bold email. Frankly I had some equally bold replies from a few of you:

“Is Cardio Killing You?”

Some may have missed the point of my email. I was not suggesting that riding a bike can “kill” you. I made a reference to an odd stat that is, believe it or not, true: Most endurance athletes who do not die from natural causes die from heart attacks.

I used the word “marathoners”, but this could apply to anyone who overtaxes their heart with too much exercise for too long.

It’s too much of a good thing… and that goes for anything really. Too much exercise of any kind is bad.

It just seems that too much “cardio” is harder on the body that too much weight training, at least statistically.

But it was meant to be ironic, ‘not’ a scare tactic! If I wanted to scare someone into listening to me I’d write volumes about how most of us have one foot in the grave already with our nutrition and stress levels.

As it is, I write “some” newsletters like that. Why? Well..because it’s true. The truth isn’t always easy to hear.

Anyway, there is indeed a “dark side” young Skywalker when it comes to cardio. Do too much and you’ll just be (ha) spinning your wheels at best. Endangering your body and your metabolism at worst.

My good friend and Men’s Health/Shape writer Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, has a freee e-book (a special report… you’ll see it in the drop-down) on his website called “The Dark Side of Cardio”.

He also has some sample fatburning workouts for you. And of course he has his awesome “Turbulence Training” books for men and women. Great stuff.

You see, I’m not the only fitness pro who thinks cardio is over-rated. In fact I’m one of dozens who are coming out with the truth about cardio: Resistance rules!

Can Fat Loss Be “Unstoppable”?

Yes… and no.

Yes if you are okay with the natural cycle of things. The body does not burn fat continuously, but in spurts. And I know first-hand how frustrating spurts can be.

But you ‘can’ be unstoppable WITH your fatloss goals. That’s a matter of three things…

1. The proper mindset. Oh, I know… “the mind thing” again. You bet. It’s the truth
– the body goes where the mind directs. Ignore this and you will stalemate before you begin.

2. The right nutrition. Huge. Massive. Cannot be emphasized enough. But it’s not as hard as most people think. My friend Scott Tousignant, BHK, CFC agrees.

Do you want to hear an interview with me and Scott on this very topic? (It’s freee.)

I love talking with Scott. He and his lovely wife Angie are walking examples of before/after pics (on the page above) and just really salt of the earth folk.

3. Patience. I know… it’s a virtue, but it’s also hard. You can do it. You just need some ongoing coaching. Scott’s Unstoppable Fatloss Program has tons of audios to help you along. You can learn more by visiting the page above.

One trick I use is to remember back to last year. Whenever I get in a hurry to get in shape, I just say to myself, “Remember how time flies? Just think back to how fast this year went by?”

That’s an entire year. Most people can get into far better shape in far less time than that. Really.

This little trick helps me realize that this time next year I’ll be looking back at some incredible progress. It also helps me keep my focus and my patience. It really works when you remember back only a few months. Think how fast that time flew by.

Conclusion

This week I have many more freebies to offer you, including a very unique contest- more info coming your way shortly.
